Hair loss and wigs

It’s natural and understandable to have concerns about the effect hair loss may have on the way you look and feel. As many of us know, age and health can have an effect on the appearance of our hair over the years. Thinning and hair loss are a natural part of aging as well as a side effect of some medical treatments including chemotherapy and certain medical conditions such as alopecia.
A wig or a hairpiece is a great option when experiencing hair loss. You’ll find it is every bit as important to your self confidence as the clothes you like to wear. They are so realistic and comfortable these days that no–one ever will ever know you’re wearing one …unless you tell them!
A wig can help you feel the most like yourself and is the preference of most people who experience hair loss; however, you might also want to consider headwear such as scarves, turbans or something to protect your head from the elements when you don’t want to wear wear wig. Even in bed they can help keep you warm.

Choosing a wig that’s right for you

With our extensive range of wig colours and styles, we’ll have a wig that suits your style. For extra confidence we customise the wig to suit you perfectly. As a hairdresser and trained in cutting wigs, this is what really makes the difference between something that can look like a wig to actually looking like your real hair.
There are several factors to consider such as length and style: Generally shorter ‘shake and go’ styles are easier to care for and synthetic hair. Longer styles in synthetic hair can be prone to fizz friction, so you might want to consider a real hair wig, however they do come with a larger price tag and do require a lot more time and effort with drying and styling.
You might want to go for a style that is similar to your own so it’s what you’re used to styling and a more subtle change. Also remember that if you are undergoing chemotherapy you may experience tiredness and won’t want to fuss with your hair.

Choosing a colour

You might feel comfortable choosing a shade that matches your own. It doesn’t have to be identical. When in doubt go a shade lighter or warmer to brighten your features. Consider your lifestyle: What does your typical day involve? Will you be wearing your wig everyday? Be sure to keep your typical daily or weekly activities in mind when you try different wigs.
